The Medical Physics Department at the College of Science, Almustaqbal University, continues to deliver theoretical lectures for fourth-stage students as part of the Image Processing and Analysis course, taught by Assistant Lecturer Lubna Ali Jalil, as part of the department’s commitment to strengthening students’ scientific and practical knowledge and connecting physical concepts with modern technologies used in the medical field.
The course covers a range of fundamental concepts and techniques in digital image processing and analysis, helping students develop the ability to work with medical images and extract important information and features from them. Topics include the nature and representation of digital images, image enhancement and noise reduction techniques, contrast enhancement, edge detection, and feature extraction, all of which contribute to producing clearer and more analyzable images.
The course also addresses the principles of medical image analysis and its applications in various imaging modalities, including X-ray imaging, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. Image processing represents an essential step in improving the quality of medical images, supporting diagnostic procedures, and assisting specialists in identifying important details and pathological patterns.
Studying this course provides Medical Physics students with essential scientific and technical skills in image analysis, detection of medically significant changes and features, and understanding the computational methods and algorithms used in processing medical images.
These lectures are part of the Medical Physics Department’s efforts to develop students’ scientific and technical capabilities and enhance their ability to employ modern technologies in medical applications, in line with the rapid developments in medical imaging, artificial intelligence, and computer-based image analysis.
