The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, participated on 7–8 October 2026 in the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain, with the participation of university presidents and representatives of academic and educational institutions from the Mediterranean and European countries. The participation coincided with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), aiming to strengthen academic cooperation, develop international partnerships, and discuss strategic priorities that contribute to advancing higher education and scientific research. The General Assembly addressed several strategic priorities, including higher education governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, enhancing graduate employability, ensuring educational continuity during emergencies and crises, and promoting the role of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The meetings also featured dedicated sessions discussing the Erasmus+ Programme for 2028–2034, mechanisms for enhancing academic mobility for students and academic staff, capacity building, the development of international partnerships, scholarship opportunities for master’s programmes, and Jean Monnet Actions. Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to have secured a Jean Monnet grant under European Union programmes. This achievement reflects the university’s active academic presence and its commitment to expanding international cooperation and engaging with global educational experiences. This participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, to strengthening its presence in international academic forums, expanding its network of relations with global universities and educational institutions, and adopting best practices in higher education and scientific research.
