With gold sponsorship from Al-Mustaqbal University, the 13th Babylon International Festival of Cultures and Arts commenced on Thursday morning, 8 October 2026, in the ancient city of Babylon, under the slogan “We Are All Babylonians.” The opening was attended by local government representatives and a distinguished gathering of Iraqi, Arab, and international artists and intellectuals. The university’s sponsorship reflects its commitment to supporting cultural and artistic activities and strengthening the role of academic institutions in promoting events that highlight the historical and cultural heritage of Babylon and reinforce its position as a meeting point for cultures and arts from around the world. The festival runs until 16 October and features a diverse cultural and artistic programme, including the International Book Fair, an art exhibition, poetry readings, literary and cultural seminars, as well as artistic, musical, and theatrical performances, with broad participation from Iraq and other Arab and international countries. The Al-Mustaqbal University pavilion at the Book Fair witnessed notable interest from visitors, who explored the university’s publications and academic and cultural achievements. This reflects the university’s active presence at cultural events and its role in disseminating knowledge and promoting scientific and cultural awareness within society. The festival aims to bring together various forms of art and literature, including poetry, prose, music, theatre, cinema, and fine arts, alongside literary, intellectual, and artistic discussions and folkloric activities. These events contribute to strengthening cultural and civilizational exchange while highlighting the historical identity of Babylon and its significance on the global cultural stage. This sponsorship is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to support cultural and artistic activities, strengthen partnerships with cultural institutions, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, by promoting knowledge, lifelong learning, and cultural openness.
