*Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the National Campaign to Combat Water Hyacinth in the Euphrates River* In implementation of the directives of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and in line with its mission of serving the community and consolidating the principles of sustainable development, Al-Mustaqbal University participated in the national campaign to combat the water hyacinth plant in the Euphrates River. The University was represented in the campaign by the Sustainable Development Division and the Office Affairs Department, with the participation of Sustainability Ambassadors from faculty members, staff, and students. The campaign was launched under the patronage of the First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and with the participation of the Minister of Environment, the Minister of Water Resources, and the Governor of Babil, alongside a number of government institutions, civil society organizations, and volunteers. Eng. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salehi, Director of the Sustainable Development Division, affirmed that the University’s participation represents an extension of its approach to transforming knowledge into impactful community practice. He noted that the water hyacinth plant has become a real environmental and water challenge due to its obstruction of water flow in the Euphrates River and irrigation canals, its negative impact on drinking water treatment plants, and its high consumption of water amid increasing water scarcity challenges resulting from climate change. He stressed that protecting water resources is a shared national responsibility that requires the collaboration of universities, institutions, civil society organizations, and citizens. He pointed out that raising environmental awareness and volunteer work are essential pillars for achieving the goals of sustainable development. The campaign witnessed active participation by University students and Sustainability Ambassadors in removing the plant, as well as implementing awareness messages on the importance of preserving rivers and water resources. Al-Mustaqbal University reaffirms its commitment to continuing its environmental and community initiatives, based on its vision that the modern university is a true partner in driving development and a platform for preparing future leaders capable of protecting both people and the environment together. *Al-Mustaqbal University, the No.1 University in Iraq*
