Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in Higher Education and Clarivate Workshop on Building a Knowledge Economy

Al-Mustaqbal University participated today, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the University of Baghdad, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, through a high-level academic delegation in the specialized workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with Clarivate, entitled “Building a University Ecosystem for Transforming Knowledge into Economic Value.” The workshop was attended by a distinguished group of university leaders, researchers, and experts. The workshop was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Communications, Mustafa Sanad, and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Research Affairs, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dahad, along with a number of university presidents and academic and research leaders. Discussions focused on developing the higher education system and strengthening the role of universities in building a knowledge-based economy. In his address, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dahad emphasized the importance of moving Iraqi universities beyond their traditional role of knowledge production toward a more effective role in transforming scientific research and innovation into economic and developmental value. He highlighted the importance of digital transformation, implementing the Bologna Process, activating industrial advisory councils, establishing science and technology parks, and expanding partnerships with international scientific and research institutions. The workshop also addressed the importance of strengthening the connection between universities and the needs of the labor market and productive sectors, thereby contributing to the utilization of educational and research outputs in addressing developmental challenges, developing knowledge-based products and services, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy. The workshop featured specialized lectures and presentations delivered by Dr. Ayman Aqeel and Dr. Waleed Hassan from Clarivate. The presentations addressed the foundations of building integrated knowledge-management systems and mechanisms for transforming scientific research outputs into applications with economic value, in addition to technology transfer, intellectual property protection, entrepreneurship, and strengthening partnerships between universities and productive sectors. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented at the workshop by a delegation headed by Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of the Scientific and Academic Supervision Directorate, and comprising Professor Dr. Tariq Jawad Kadhim, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department; Dr. Sameer Badrawi, Director of the Cultural Relations Department; and Dr. Abdullah Musa Kadhim, Consultant at the Scientific Affairs Department. The workshop featured rich academic discussions on developing an institutional environment that supports innovation in Iraqi universities, strengthening partnerships between universities and the public and private sectors, and transforming knowledge and scientific research into solutions and applications with sustainable economic and developmental impact. Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation in the workshop reflects its commitment to keeping pace with modern trends in higher education and scientific research, strengthening its presence in high-quality academic events, and expanding its scientific partnerships. These efforts support the utilization of knowledge and innovation in serving society and the labor market and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and building a knowledge-based economy.
