College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in a Scientific Seminar on the Negative Impacts of Plastic Bags

The Head of the Department of Forensic Evidence at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Dhirgham Ali Abbas Al-Sultani, participated in an awareness-raising scientific seminar held in cooperation with the Babil Environment Directorate, entitled “The Negative Impacts of Plastic Bags on the Environment and Health and Introducing Environmentally Friendly Alternatives.” The seminar was organized as part of efforts to strengthen scientific and awareness-based cooperation between academic institutions and relevant governmental authorities. The seminar addressed a number of environmental and health issues associated with the increasing use of plastic bags, highlighting their adverse effects on soil, water, and the surrounding environment. It also examined the potential risks resulting from the accumulation of plastic waste, its prolonged persistence in the environment, and the long-term consequences for environmental sustainability and public health. The seminar further highlighted the importance of raising environmental awareness and promoting a culture of reducing the use of single-use plastics. It also introduced environmentally friendly alternatives, including reusable bags and biodegradable materials, which can contribute to reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and supporting sustainable environmental practices. The participation emphasized the scientific and awareness-raising role of Al-Mustaqbal University and the College of Science in addressing environmental and community-related issues and strengthening partnerships with specialized governmental institutions, particularly the Babil Environment Directorate, in order to promote environmental awareness and responsible environmental practices among different segments of society. This participation is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to support scientific and awareness initiatives, serve the community, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 13: Climate Action, contributing to the creation of a safer and more sustainable environment for future generations.
