Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new milestone in the field of university sustainability, ranking first among private universities in Iraq and third among Iraqi universities overall in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, which included 92 Iraqi universities and colleges. The University achieved a score of 8,475 out of 10,000, demonstrating advanced performance across the various ranking indicators and reflecting its adoption of an integrated institutional approach to implementing sustainability principles and strengthening sustainable practices across different areas of university life. The University also achieved a significant distinction by ranking first in Iraq and 23rd globally in the Water category, after receiving a full score. This achievement reflects the University’s commitment to sustainable water resource management, improving water-use efficiency, reducing consumption, and adopting sustainable environmental practices in the management of this vital resource. Al-Mustaqbal University also recorded strong results across several key indicators of the international ranking, including Education and Research, Waste Management, Energy and Climate Change, Governance and Digitalization, Transportation, and Infrastructure. These results demonstrate the broad scope of sustainability practices at the University and their integration into its academic, administrative, and environmental activities, establishing sustainability as an essential component of its institutional framework. This achievement reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to strengthening its presence in international sustainability rankings and utilizing their outcomes to enhance institutional performance, improve resource efficiency, and expand initiatives and projects related to green transformation and sustainable development.
