College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University Explores the Importance of Geodiversity in a Specialized Scientific Symposium
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Magdi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, the college held a specialized scientific symposium on 6 October 2026 to mark International Geodiversity Day. The event brought together academics and researchers to raise awareness of geodiversity and its relationship to environmental protection and the sustainability of natural resources.
The symposium featured lectures delivered by Professor Dr. Jawad Kadhim Mani and Professor Dr. Jaafar Al-Zubaidi from the College of Science at the University of Babylon, alongside Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Latif Hussein from the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University.
The lectures explored Iraq’s geodiversity, its role in supporting ecosystems and the national economy, and the importance of protecting distinctive geological sites and managing them in line with sustainable development goals. Discussions also examined the relationship between climate change and geological processes and their implications for the environment and natural resources.
The symposium concluded with participants emphasizing the importance of supporting research in Earth sciences and expanding awareness activities for students and the wider community to preserve geological heritage and promote the sustainable use of natural resources.
