Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, the Department of Life Sciences at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific lecture on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to celebrate and mark this important global occasion. The lecture was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Latif Hussein from the Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University. It was attended by faculty members and students, followed by contributions and discussions from those present. October 6 is observed annually as International Geodiversity Day, proclaimed by UNESCO to raise awareness of the importance of geodiversity in human life and the need for international cooperation in managing significant geological sites worldwide. The observance also highlights the importance of protecting valuable geological features from threats arising from human activities. It is noteworthy that Iraq ranked first globally in activities marking this international day in both 2024 and 2025. Al-Mustaqbal University is participating in this global event for the first time, taking the lead among public and private universities and institutions in Babil Governorate, none of which had previously participated in this occasion.
