Wearable medical devices have become one of the most significant innovations in healthcare technology, offering advanced solutions for continuous health monitoring beyond hospitals and clinics. These technologies have transformed healthcare from the traditional model of periodic medical visits to a more proactive approach based on continuous monitoring in patients’ daily lives, thereby improving the quality of care and enabling faster responses to changes in health conditions. These devices include smartwatches, fitness bands, biosensors, and internet-connected medical monitoring devices capable of measuring a wide range of vital health indicators in real time. Such indicators include heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), sleep quality, physical activity levels, and, for some patients, continuous glucose monitoring, along with other important physiological parameters. The importance of wearable medical devices lies in their ability to continuously collect health data and transmit them to intelligent healthcare systems. This enables healthcare professionals to monitor patients more accurately, detect abnormal changes at an early stage, and intervene promptly when necessary. As a result, these technologies support preventive healthcare by reducing the risk of complications and improving overall patient outcomes. Wearable medical devices also enhance patients’ quality of life by empowering them to monitor their own health more effectively, encouraging healthier lifestyles, reducing unnecessary routine hospital visits, and optimizing healthcare resource utilization. When integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics, the information collected from these devices can reveal valuable health patterns, predict potential health risks, and support physicians in developing personalized treatment and care plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs. With continuous advancements in sensor technology, wireless communication, and data analytics, wearable medical devices are expected to become an essential component of smart healthcare systems. They will play a vital role in advancing preventive medicine, personalized healthcare, and patient-centered care by enabling continuous monitoring, early intervention, and more accurate, data-driven medical decision-making.
