President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the UNIMED General Assembly at the University of Barcelona, Discussing Erasmus+ Programmes and International Academic Mobility Barcelona – Spain

Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the proceedings of the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026, with broad participation from university presidents and representatives of educational and academic institutions across the Mediterranean region and Europe. The General Assembly coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED). The event addressed several strategic issues related to the development of higher education and the enhancement of international academic cooperation and scientific research. Discussing Strategic Priorities for Higher Education Development The meetings addressed the main themes and strategic priorities of the Union’s action plan, focusing on higher education governance, digital transformation in education, promoting intercultural dialogue, and developing students’ and graduates’ skills in line with labor market requirements. Discussions also covered supporting higher education during emergencies and crises, strengthening universities’ roles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and protecting the environment. Reviewing Erasmus+ Programs and International Academic Mobility The General Assembly also included specialized sessions discussing proposals and future perspectives related to the Erasmus+ Program (2028–2034), mechanisms for enhancing academic mobility for students and academic staff, developing international partnerships, building institutional capacity, providing scholarship opportunities for master’s degree programs, and supporting Jean Monnet Actions. It is worth noting that Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to have received an approved Jean Monnet grant under European Union programs. This achievement reflects the University’s active presence in international academic cooperation projects and its commitment to advancing higher education and strengthening scientific partnerships. During his participation, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi emphasized Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to expanding cooperation with international universities and academic institutions, benefiting from exchange and academic mobility programs, and adopting best educational and research practices. These efforts contribute to enhancing the University’s international standing and supporting the continued development of its academic and research activities.
