President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the UNIMED General Assembly at the University of Barcelona and Discusses Erasmus+ and Academic Mobility Programs

Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED General Assembly 2026), hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026. The General Assembly coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the founding of UNIMED, featuring wide participation from numerous presidents and representatives of universities, educational institutions, and academic entities across the Mediterranean basin and Europe. Strategic Priorities and Action Plan The meetings included discussions and the approval of the main axes and strategic priorities of the union’s action plan (Priority Areas), which focused on developing the higher education and scientific research system through the following fields: Governance of Higher Education: Enhancing frameworks for sound administration and governance within academic institutions. Digital Education: Supporting digital transformation and developing modern educational environments and technologies. Intercultural Dialogue: Strengthening cultural understanding and cooperation among the peoples and institutions of the Euro-Mediterranean region. Employability: Enhancing students' skills to align with the demands of the modern job market. Higher Education in Emergencies and Fragility: Supporting educational continuity and providing learning opportunities under critical conditions and crises. Sustainable Development: Activating the role of universities in achieving sustainable development goals and environmental protection. Review of Erasmus+ Programs and Academic Mobility The General Assembly sessions also reviewed proposals and visions for the "Erasmus+" programs (2028–2034) and mechanisms to enhance unified academic mobility for students and teaching staff (Student and Staff Mobility Actions), in addition to supporting capacity building, international partnerships, providing Master's scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. It is worth noting that Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to successfully secure the accredited "Jean Monnet" grant within European Union programs, reflecting its academic excellence and active presence in international higher education projects. During his participation, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy emphasized Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to active engagement in international partnerships and the implementation of best academic practices, thereby strengthening the university's standing in international forums and supporting national educational and research development strategies.
