As part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to promoting awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supporting initiatives that contribute to women’s empowerment and active participation in society, Assistant Lecturer Azraa Abbas, as part of the Women’s Affairs activities at the College of Science, organized an awareness campaign entitled “Women: A Key Partner in Building a Sustainable Society.” The campaign aimed to highlight the vital role women play in building a more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable society, emphasizing that empowering women and strengthening their participation in educational, professional, economic, and social fields are essential components of sustainable development. The campaign addressed a number of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals closely connected to women’s empowerment, including SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action. The awareness activity also emphasized the importance of providing women with opportunities for education and lifelong learning, supporting their participation in the workforce and entrepreneurship, and encouraging their contribution to environmental and community-based initiatives. It further highlighted the significant role women can play in building healthier, safer, and more sustainable communities. The campaign also focused on encouraging young people, particularly young women, to adopt sustainable practices and actively participate in community initiatives. It highlighted the importance of supporting women’s participation in decision-making and strengthening their ability to contribute to addressing environmental, economic, and social challenges while helping shape a more sustainable future for coming generations. This initiative reflects the College of Science’s continued efforts to promote sustainability awareness and community engagement, while strengthening the University’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It also reinforces the importance of women’s empowerment as a fundamental pillar for building a more balanced, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable society.
