Barcelona, Spain | 7–8 October 2026 Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the 2026 General Assembly of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), hosted by the University of Barcelona, Spain, coinciding with the Union’s 35th anniversary. The Assembly brought together university leaders and representatives of higher education institutions from across Europe and the Mediterranean to discuss strategic priorities for advancing higher education and research, focusing on governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, graduate employability, education in emergencies, and sustainable development. Discussions also explored the future of Erasmus+ (2028–2034), student and staff mobility, international partnerships, capacity building, master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. Notably, Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to have secured a Jean Monnet grant under the European Union’s programmes, reflecting its growing international engagement and commitment to academic excellence.
