Barcelona, Spain | 7–8 October 2026 Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the 2026 General Assembly of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), hosted by the University of Barcelona, Spain, coinciding with the Union’s 35th anniversary. The Assembly brought together university leaders and representatives of higher education institutions from across Europe and the Mediterranean to discuss strategic priorities for advancing higher education and research, focusing on governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, graduate employability, education in emergencies, and sustainable development. Discussions also explored the future of Erasmus+ (2028–2034), student and staff mobility, international partnerships, capacity building, master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. Notably, Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to have secured a Jean Monnet grant under the European Union’s programmes, reflecting its growing international engagement and commitment to academic excellence. Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the College of Administrative Sciences launched the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, hosted by the Faculty of Commerce at Mansoura University, Egypt, for the 2026–2027 academic year. The program marks a significant step in advancing the University’s postgraduate offerings and expanding its academic partnerships. The launch ceremony was attended by the Vice president Prof. Dr. Munther Fadhil , Mr. Abdulridha Shakir, Director of the Diwan Affairs Department, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and Prof. Dr. Haider Al-Dulaimi, Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, along with several college deans, faculty members, and postgraduate students. Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy delivered the University President’s speech, conveying his greetings and congratulations to the students. He emphasized that the program represents a valuable addition to the University’s postgraduate education portfolio, aiming to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge and leadership and professional skills capable of meeting the demands of the modern business environment and managing organizations with efficiency and innovation. He also highlighted the importance of academic cooperation with Mansoura University in exchanging expertise and enhancing the quality of education and research. During its visit to The University of Jordan, a delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University explored opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in enhancing institutional performance, advancing the quality of education and research, strengthening universities’ positions in global rankings, and pursuing international accreditation. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Hassan Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad Kazem, Director of Scientific Affairs. Discussions focused on developing academic programs in line with international standards, strengthening quality and accreditation systems, and benefiting from successful institutional experiences. The two sides also discussed emerging trends in higher education, digital transformation, and the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching, research, and university management, highlighting the importance of developing skills, curricula, and technological infrastructure to meet future requirements. In line with Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, to strengthening academic and scientific partnerships with Arab and international universities, a university delegation visited the University of Petra in Jordan to explore ways to activate the existing cooperation agreement and align it with shared academic and research priorities. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Hassan Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad Kazem, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department. They were received by Prof. Dr. Faisal Abu Al-Rub, Vice President of the University of Petra; Dr. Nidal Hussein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and Mr. Alaa Al-Din Arabiyat, Director of Public and International Relations, along with a number of senior academic and administrative representatives. The meeting reviewed the universities’ previous cooperation and its academic and research outcomes, including joint scientific events, collaborative research publications, and the exchange of expertise and cooperation between corresponding colleges and disciplines. The two sides also discussed renewing the agreement and developing it into more effective and sustainable programs, with expanded cooperation in education and research, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, as well as student exchange and summer training programs to strengthen practical skills and enhance students’ readiness for the labor market. In line with the directives of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, to strengthen scientific and academic partnerships with global universities and expand international cooperation, a university delegation is continuing its visit to Amman, Jordan, to explore new avenues of collaboration with leading Jordanian universities. The delegation includes Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad Kazem, Director of Scientific Affairs. As part of the visit, Al-Mustaqbal University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for scientific and academic cooperation with Jordan’s Applied Science Private University, creating new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of joint academic and research initiatives and projects. The MoU was signed on behalf of Applied Science Private University by Prof. Dr. Samiha Jarrah, President of the University, and on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. The signing ceremony was attended from the Jordanian side by Dr. Haitham Abdullah Abu Khadija, Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Wamid Hadi Taleb, Director of the International Relations Office, along with a number of academic officials from both universities. Prior to the signing, Prof. Dr. Al-Zuhairy delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting Al-Mustaqbal University’s major achievements and milestones, its progress in academic and research fields, accreditation and international rankings, as well as its future directions for strengthening partnerships and expanding engagement with global universities and academic institutions. The MoU provides a framework for cooperation in scientific, academic, and research fields, including the exchange of expertise, students, and researchers, and support for joint initiatives and projects. The specialized training course attended by students from the Department of Forensic Sciences at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, has concluded at Razi University in Kermanshah, Islamic Republic of Iran. The programme represented a valuable academic training experience that reflected the depth of academic cooperation and international engagement between the two universities. The closing activities of the course included the presentation of Certificates of Participation, officially approved and signed by the International Office and the Department of Life Sciences at Razi University, in recognition of the students’ participation and successful completion of the 12-hour training programme, held under the title: “From Crime Scene to Laboratory: Applying the Life Sciences to Forensic Analysis” The training programme covered specialised topics addressing the applications of life sciences in forensic analysis, contributing to the enhancement of students’ scientific knowledge and practical skills while bridging academic learning with laboratory applications in the field of forensic sciences. On the occasion of the certificate presentation ceremony, an extended meeting was held in the presence of Prof. Dr. Shahab Moradkhani, Director of the International Affairs Office at Razi University; Prof. Dr. Dhargham Ali Abbas, Head of the Department of Forensic Sciences at Al-Mustaqbal University; and Dr. Maytham Nabeel Miqdad, Rapporteur of the Department of Smart Medical Systems and Coordinator and Supervisor of the training course, along with the participating students. The meeting provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with the students, during which their views and impressions regarding the course content, training quality, and laboratory experience were discussed. The participants also exchanged a number of suggestions and ideas aimed at developing future training programmes and joint scientific initiatives. The meeting also featured expressions of appreciation and gratitude. Dr. Shahab Moradkhani commended the high level of commitment, discipline, and active participation demonstrated by Al-Mustaqbal University students throughout the course. In turn, the Iraqi delegation expressed its sincere appreciation to Razi University and its International Affairs Office for the warm welcome, effective organisation, and generous hospitality, as well as for providing a supportive academic and training environment that contributed to the success of the programme. Al-Mustaqbal University concluded a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programs and grants, organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop brought together representatives of public and private universities across the Middle Euphrates region and was attended by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. The third and final day featured specialized training and dialogue sessions addressing Erasmus Mundus opportunities for students and academics, key application requirements, university partnerships, and the preparation of joint Master’s program proposals, supporting international academic cooperation and the development of joint educational programs. Sessions also highlighted universities’ role in promoting Erasmus+ opportunities and supporting students in preparing applications. Participants discussed key challenges facing Iraqi universities in engaging with these programs and explored practical steps to address them and strengthen institutional readiness to develop and submit competitive projects and proposals. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi stressed the importance of moving beyond awareness of Erasmus+ toward transforming available opportunities into practical international partnerships and implementable projects, while using the training outcomes to strengthen Iraqi universities’ capacities and enhance their engagement in European academic and research cooperation programs. Held over three days, the workshop covered Erasmus+ opportunities, institutional capacity building, competitive international project development, International Credit Mobility (ICM), student exchange, administrative and financial aspects of European projects, and Jean Monnet grant applications. The specialized workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University on strengthening institutional capacity and expanding access to European Union Erasmus+ programmes continued for a second day. Organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the workshop brings together representatives of public and private universities from the Middle Euphrates region, supporting the internationalization of higher education and Iraqi universities’ engagement in international projects. The second day opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, representing Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. He stressed the importance of turning the workshop’s training outcomes into practical action by developing high-quality projects that respond to university and community needs, strengthen institutional and academic performance, create meaningful community impact, and advance the internationalization of higher education in Iraq. The sessions continued with International Credit Mobility (ICM), focusing on student exchange mechanisms and their implementation in line with Iraqi academic regulations, including the recognition of students’ study periods at European universities as part of their approved study periods in Iraq. The workshop also addressed the administrative and financial aspects of EU-funded projects, including the Ministry’s approval for Iraqi public universities to open foreign-currency accounts for managing and implementing EU-funded initiatives, including Erasmus+ projects. Another session introduced Jean Monnet Projects, highlighting their objectives, application mechanisms and preparation requirements. The experiences of Al-Mustaqbal University and Al-Turath University were presented as Iraqi success stories in securing grants under this strand, offering practical models for developing competitive proposals. The day featured active participation through questions, discussions and proposals covering the academic, administrative and technical dimensions of Erasmus+. Al-Mustaqbal University trainees also contributed actively, particularly on university registration, establishing an institutional presence on the EU platform, and designating university representatives for proposed projects.
